Tuberculosis and HIV coinfection and rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis among patients living with HIV in Northern part of West Bengal, India

Background: India is one of the top most country among high tuberculosis (TB) burden countries and ranks third highest human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in world contributing to 23% total global load. Mycobacterium (MTB) HIV are known act synergistically result higher mortality rates. TB-HIV coinfection emergence drug resistant forms MTB can impact positively on treatment outcomes. Aims Objectives: The aim this study was determine prevalence co-infection rifampicin (RIF) TB seropositive patients. Materials Methods: It a retrospective observational carried out Department Microbiology, Malda Medical College, Malda, West Bengal. Records all patients that tested using CBNAAT during March 2016–December 2019 laboratory College were assessed. Data generated period collected analyzed. statistical analysis done tabulation form different charts tables used for displaying data. Results: A 6503 samples 2019. Out 6503, 3098 positive (MTB detected).Of MTB, 8.91% (276/3098) RIF resistant. Among 91.22% (2826/3098) pulmonary (PTB) 8.78% (272/3098) extra PTB. samples, 664 reported living with HIV. 3.91% (121/3098) cases. Of coinfected cases, (67.77%) age group 20–39 years males (77.69%) contributed more than females. 121 coinfected, 88.43% (107/121) sensitive 11.57% (14/121) RIF. Conclusion: present seronegative Thus, should be screened HIV-positive individuals along resistance better management.
